Portable Command Center
Phoenix Disaster Services’ Man-Portable Interoperable Tactical Operations Center (MITOC) provides low-cost, quickly deployable communications in the event of a disaster. The system includes cellular data and satellite data broadband capabilities; efficient energy use, including solar power; mesh networking; and Voice Over Internet Protocol. It was developed through a partnership between the University of Louisville, Murray State University’s Center for Telecommunications Systems Management and the Kentucky Community and Technical College System first responder training program, with a $1.1 million DHS grant.
